MLG Spring Championship – Round-Up Days 1 & 2
***Spoiler Alert – This article contains match scores***
Well what a fantastic few days we have seen so far from Anaheim! We’ve witnessed history in the making with KeSPA’s showcase. We also saw many great players fight their way from Open Bracket into Pool Play and of course we saw some great casting across the board!First off we’d like to thank the casters so far this weekend for giving us some amazing commentary and also post-game analysis! Tasteless, Artosis, djWHEAT, Husky, Apollo, TotalBiscuit and Rob Simpson have all raised their games this weekend to help create what has been one of the best viewing experiences so far this year!
So Pool Play opened with a fantastic series from Grubby vs. MarineKing. Grubby made a great showing for Protoss, but was unable to hold off the classic style of MarineKing resulting in a 2-1 loss for Grubby. From here on in we had games coming out of our ears from the Open Bracket, Pool Play and WCS US Nationals all taking place! We had great showings from the likes of Idra, Nony, MC and Stephano all taking their own personal games to the next level!
Unfortunately, when someone wins someone else has to lose. A few great players dropped to Open Bracket Losers and also got eliminated in what has to be one of the toughest Open Bracket showings we have had for a while. With notable players like DeMuslim, HayprO and Ret all being eliminated in rounds 3, 4 and 7 respectively! It was unfortunate to see great talent drop out but that isn’t to say they didn’t play well and respect goes out to everyone who has taken part this weekend!
On day 2 history was made with the KeSPA Exhibition Tournament. This was the first Starcraft 2 event to feature KeSPA players on US soil. We saw the legend that is Flash, not drop a single game throughout and he eventually took the first place prize after a great final against Bisu. We also saw Jaedong drop to Bisu in the Semi-Finals in a good series.
So that leaves us with Championship Sunday which takes place later today. It promises to be a fantastic day and we will see who will take the $25,000 top prize and is crowned champion of MLG’s Spring Championship 2012!
There will be a round-up of the final day’s action which will go in depth with all the going’s on and results!
Hope you are all having a great weekend of Starcraft 2 like we are, and enjoy Championship Sunday.
